Muscat: The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in Dhofar Governorate today organized the third Consumer Protection Forum in the governorate. The forum included a dialogue session titled 'Shared roles and aspirations', which laid emphasis on integration between parties tasked with consumer protection, food safety, and the sectors of agriculture and fisheries.
According to Oman News Agency, the session discussed institutional integration, the exchange of information, and ways to ensure the safety of food products, from the stages of production until they reach consumers. Additionally, it highlighted the challenges related to food supply chains in Dhofar Governorate and addressed the increased demand for food products during the Khareef (monsoon) season.
The session further explored mechanisms to support local products from the agriculture and fisheries sector, means to enhance consumer confidence in these products, prevent violations, and respond swiftly to related reports. Participants shared their future aspirations in digital transition, artificial intelligence, and data exchange, as well as the potential development of joint platforms for filing reports, reviewing regulatory results, and raising public awareness.
The forum, held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, was conducted under the patronage of Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Humaid Al Harthy, Wali of Salalah.
