Muscat: The Environment Authority has successfully identified several endangered wildlife species in new habitats within A’Dakhiliyah Governorate. This accomplishment is part of its ongoing initiatives to preserve biodiversity and protect wildlife through the use of advanced tracking technologies, including camera traps.
According to Oman News Agency, the monitoring efforts have confirmed the presence of the Arabian lynx, a medium-sized wildcat recognized for its hunting and leaping abilities. In addition, the Arabian tahr, a distinctive mountain goat species, and the Arabian wolf, known for its adaptability to desert and semi-desert environments, have also been documented.
These discoveries highlight the recovery of ecosystems and the success of the authority’s protection programs, which contribute to ecological balance and the sustainability of natural resources. Eng. Ahmed Salim Al Amiri, Director of the Environment Department in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, noted that these results are derived from field surveys and the use of modern technology, in alignment with a national strategy focused on wildlife conservation and ecosystem sustainability.
Al Amiri underscored the importance of local communities in supporting environmental efforts and stressed the necessity of adhering to regulations protecting wildlife to ensure the preservation of these natural treasures for future generations. The authority remains committed to implementing monitoring and protection programs in collaboration with relevant entities, urging for collective efforts to bolster wildlife conservation initiatives and achieve environmental sustainability goals.
