Kuwait City: The Sultanate of Oman actively took part in the 164th session of the GCC Ministerial Council held in Kuwait. The session focused on the latest progress in joint Gulf cooperation across various fields, including political, economic, security, and developmental sectors, aiming to enhance integration and prosperity within the region.
According to Oman News Agency, the Omani delegation was led by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the country’s Foreign Minister. The session was chaired by Abdullah bin Ali Al-Yahya, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister and the current President of the Council. The meeting saw the presence of GCC foreign ministers and the GCC Secretary-General.
During the session, the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip was a significant point of discussion. The heads of delegations emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts in collaboration with the international community to stop Israeli aggression, safeguard Palestinian civilians, and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. They also highlighted the importance of facilitating the safe return of displaced individuals and reiterated their demand for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and all occupied Palestinian territories, in line with international legitimacy resolutions.
The Council applauded the efforts made by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to broker a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Furthermore, the Council expressed appreciation for the ongoing talks between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, acknowledging Oman’s role in hosting and facilitating these discussions. The Council expressed its support for these diplomatic endeavors, underlining the significance of dialogue in peacefully resolving disputes, with hopes that these negotiations would contribute to regional and international security and stability.
Regarding Syria, the Council welcomed the establishment of the new Syrian government and recognized the positive response from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the lifting of sanctions on Syria. The Council also noted the UK’s decision to amend or cancel certain sanctions. The importance of supporting efforts to restore security and stability in Syria, while maintaining its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, was strongly emphasized.
