China Announces Progress in Trade Negotiations with US Following Beijing Summit

China: China has announced the achievement of significant progress in trade deliberations with the United States of America (USA) following a landmark summit convened between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in the capital, Beijing.

According to Oman News Agency, the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing stated that both parties reached preliminary accords pertaining to customs tariffs, agricultural matters and aviation, noting that negotiations regarding the intricate details remain ongoing.

Furthermore, the ministry added that China and the United States have agreed to establish joint councils for trade and investment; the trade council will serve as a forum to discuss the reduction of tariffs on several products, amidst a general consensus to mutually lower duties on specific commodities. The ministry pointed to advancements made in the agricultural trade file, though it did not provide specific details regarding tariff percentages or implementation mechanisms.

The statement also encompassed agreements related to China's procurement of American aircraft and the supply of aviation engines and components, at a time when the US President had previously asserted that China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, a figure that Beijing has yet to officially confirm.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce emphasized that the summit's outcomes remain within a preliminary framework, and despite indications of broad deals, precise details regarding the volume, value, or timeline of these agreements have not been disclosed.
