Muscat: The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that 17 hospitals in Lebanon have been damaged due to the recent Israeli escalation, including three hospitals located in the city of Tire. The organization is calling for the protection of medical facilities and personnel under international law.
According to Oman News Agency, the WHO reported that 135 healthcare workers and paramedics have lost their lives, with nearly 400 others injured since the escalation began. The WHO emphasizes the critical need for the safety of medical personnel during such conflicts.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that humanitarian partners continue to support affected families, with over 182,000 people receiving essential relief supplies. OCHA expressed deep concern over the ongoing impact of hostilities on the health sector and people's ability to access essential services. They noted that a recent attack near Hiram Hospital resulted in injuries to 10 staff members and damage to its buildings and vehicles.
The office added that this incident marks at least the fifth time Hiram Hospital has been affected since the escalation began on 2 March 2026. The continued targeting of healthcare facilities underscores the urgent need for adherence to international humanitarian law to protect medical infrastructure and personnel.
