US Chief of Staff: Remnants of ISIS are still present in Iraq and Syria

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army, Mark Milley, said that the only goal of the military presence in Syria is to "eliminate the terrorist organization ISIS."

"The main function of these forces in Syria is the task of combating ISIS," Milley continued in an interview with the Jordanian "Kingdom" channel, noting that the remnants of the organization are still present in Iraq and Syria in small groups.

"If we suddenly decide to withdraw, these small groups can reconfigure themselves," he added.

When asked whether the American forces would leave the Syrian territories immediately after the defeat of "ISIS", he said that it is a political decision "to be taken by the political leadership, by the American president and the American government. I do not want to predict a decision of this kind."/ End
