Turkey extended the suspension of its flights to Sulaymaniyah International Airport until the beginning of 2024.
According to Kurdish media, "The Iraqi Airway's office in Sulaymaniyah was informed via e-mail of the extension of the suspension of Turkish flights to Sulaymaniyah Airport until (January 3, 2024)."
The office in Erbil also confirmed its commitment to the decision and to "suspend flights from Sulaymaniyah to Turkey until next year."
And on (April 3, 2023), Turkish Airlines suspended its flights to Sulaymaniyah International Airport until April 5.
Two days later, Turkey announced the closure of its airspace to aircraft that use Sulaymaniyah International Airport to land and take off, as of (April 3, 2023).
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs attributed the aforementioned decision to "the intensification of the activities of the PKK in Sulaymaniyah and its penetration of the airport, thus threatening aviation security."
It said, "The decision is expected to be valid until the third of July 2023 in the first phase, and it will be reviewed in light of developments that we will closely monitor until the aforementioned date."
