The party of the ousted Nigerien President, Muhammad Bazoum, announced that the putschists are holding six Ministers, including Finance Minister Ahmed Jaddoud and Minister of Planning Rabio Abdo.
A statement by the Party for Democracy and Socialism in the Republic of Niger, published on the ActuNiger website, said: “Since July 26, the Republican Guard has been holding the President of the Republic, Mohammed Bazoum, and his family members. Other political figures have also been illegally detained, including Finance Minister Ahmed Jadoud and Planning Minister Rabio Abdo.
It is noteworthy that the former commander of the presidential guard, General Omar Abd al-Rahman Tiani, seized power on July 26, and justified the overthrow of President Bazoum by his security, economic and social failure, in a country that is among the poorest countries in the world and suffers from the activity of armed groups.
For his part, Bazoum warned of the entire Sahel region of Africa falling under the influence of Russian influence through the "Wagner" military group, in an implicit accusation against Moscow of being behind the coup, which Russia denies categorically.
