The Cabinet condemns the crime of burning the Holy Quran in the Kingdom of Sweden

The Council of Ministers condemned the crime of burning the Holy Qur’an in the Kingdom of Sweden, and said that this heinous crime constitutes a blatant assault on the beliefs of Muslims and a violation of their sanctities, stressing that the concepts of freedom, personal rights, and freedom of expression must respect sacred things without transgression or abuse.

The media Office of the Prime Minister stated in a statement, "The Cabinet confirms the content of the letter of the Supreme Authority Office in Najaf addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations with the aim of reaching international commitments to prevent such attacks from occurring in the future.

The statement indicated, "The Council urges the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to communicate with the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and to confirm Iraq's request to host an emergency conference at the level of leaders or Ministers."
