State Council Evaluates Draft Law on Plant Genetic Resources Management

Muscat: The State Council convened today to deliberate on the "Draft Unified Law on the Management of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture for the Countries of the GCC" and reviewed the Social and Cultural Committee's opinion on the matter.

According to Oman News Agency, the discussion occurred during the ninth session of the third regular annual sitting of the eighth term, under the leadership of Sheikh Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council. The Chairman highlighted that the session's agenda included the examination of the draft law and the Social and Cultural Committee's report, in alignment with Article (49) of the Law of the Council of Oman.

Additionally, the agenda featured a study by the Economic and Financial Committee on the "Study of the Framework for Developing the Government Performance Management System," as well as a Special Committee study titled "Analyzing the Business Environment in the Sultanate of Oman: Practical Steps to Enhance Entrepreneurship."

The session progressed with an analysis of the Social and Cultural Committee's perspective on the "Draft Unified Law on the Management of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture for the Countries of the GCC."

Furthermore, the Economic and Financial Committee's study on "Development of the Government Performance Management System" was discussed. This initiative aims to support "Oman Vision 2040," refine government planning methodologies, create a cohesive institutional framework for performance management, boost spending efficiency, enhance productivity, ensure sustainability, and elevate service quality.

Concluding the session, discussions were held on the Special Committee's study "Analyzing the Business Environment in the Sultanate of Oman: Practical Steps to Enhance Entrepreneurship." The study aims to assess the current business environment in Oman, identify main challenges faced by enterprises and entrepreneurs, and offer practical recommendations to improve the business climate and bolster economic competitiveness. The study also aims to lay the groundwork for more detailed future studies based on its findings.
