Muscat: The Main Committee for Moon Sighting announced today the confirmation of the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH. Consequently, Tuesday will be the first day of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH, corresponding to June 16, 2026.
According to Oman News Agency, the statement from the committee elaborated that the meeting was held on the evening of 29 of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, corresponding to 15 June 2026. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. The committee members included Sheikh Dr. Kahlan Nabhan Al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman; Eng. Khalid Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Ahmed Saleh Al Rashdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs; Mohamed Salim Al Akhzami, Judge at the Supreme Court; Abdulrahman Abdul Sattar Al Kamali, Judge at the Supreme Court; and Mohamed Salim Al Nahdi, Judge at the Supreme Court.
The committee received reports confirming the sighting of the crescent moon. After studying these reports, it concluded that the sighting of the crescent moon of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH has been confirmed. Thus, it was decided that Tuesday would mark the beginning of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH, aligning with the date of 16 June 2026.
