Shura Council to Review Multiple Draft Laws and Agreements in Upcoming Sessions

Muscat: The Shura Council is set to convene for its 10th and 11th regular sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, 20-21 May, to discuss several draft laws and agreements referred by the government, alongside economic and social proposals and follow-up instruments from Council members.

According to Oman News Agency, Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, announced that the Council aims to enhance the legislative framework across various sectors in Oman, aligning with ‘Oman Vision 2040′ and addressing citizens’ aspirations for comprehensive and sustainable development. The Council has been reviewing a series of draft laws during the current regular session.

The agenda for the upcoming sessions includes discussions on amendments to provisions of the Arbitration Law in Civil and Commercial Disputes, the Real Estate Registry Law, and the review and approval of the Civil Society Institutions Law, as referred by the government.

Sheikh Ahmed further detailed that the Council will consider the Public Services and Utilities Committee’s viewpoint on the Air Transport Agreement between Oman and the Kyrgyz Republic, along with examining the proposed mandatory military service for Omani youth, based on the Youth and Human Resources Committee’s report.

The sessions will also cover updates on several draft laws referred by the Council of Ministers, including the National Geospatial Data and Information Law, the Unified Industrial Regulation Law for GCC States, and the Sports Organizations Law. Additionally, Council members will receive a briefing on the Air Services Agreement between Oman and the Netherlands.

The State Council and Shura Council are set to hold their second joint session on Sunday, 25 May, to discuss disputed articles between the two councils concerning several draft laws, such as the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, the State Revenue Collection Law, the Real Estate Regulation Law, the Telecommunications and Information Technology Law, and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law.
