Shura Council Examines Oman-Azerbaijan Tax Agreement and Other Key Draft Legislations

Muscat: The Shura Council convened for its twenty-second regular session of the third annual sitting of the tenth term to deliberate on a draft agreement between the governments of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The focus of the agreement is the elimination of double taxation concerning income taxes and the prevention and avoidance of tax evasion. The session was presided over by Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council.

According to Oman News Agency, the session featured an examination of the Economic and Financial Committee's report on establishing a system to connect corporate tax procedures with government entitlements. This initiative aims to develop an integrated electronic system, linking corporate tax duties with government financial obligations. The goal is to expedite procedures, enhance tax compliance, improve financial collection efficiency, and foster greater integration among government institutions.

The Council also delved into the Economic and Financial Committee's report on "Economic Diplomacy: Impact, Results, and Performance Measurement Indicators." Discussions extended to the Services and Public Utilities Committee's report concerning the advancement of social housing programs and subsidized housing loans. Additionally, the session reviewed the Media, Tourism and Culture Committee's report on evaluating localization policies and programs within the tourism sector.

In conclusion, the session addressed the Food and Water Security Committee's report regarding "Future Agricultural Cities: Opportunities and Challenges," exploring the prospects and obstacles associated with developing agricultural cities.
