Muscat: Nama Power and Water Procurement and O-Green today celebrated the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement for the Continuous Renewable Energy Project, which integrates wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems in the wilayats of Mahout and Duqm. The project boasts a total installed generation capacity of 2.7 gigawatts.
According to Oman News Agency, the signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Sultan Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance. The award letter was signed by Ahmed Salim Al Abri, Chief Executive Officer of Nama Power and Water Procurement, and Mustafa Mohammed Al Hinai, Chief Executive Officer of O-Green.
The project signifies a crucial advancement in Oman's renewable energy strategy, transitioning from standalone solar and wind projects to integrated clean-energy systems that deliver stable electricity continuously. This development sets a strategic foundation to bolster energy-intensive sectors such as data centres, advanced computing, advanced industries, and green fuels.
Considered one of the world's largest hybrid continuous renewable energy projects, this initiative combines renewable resources with advanced storage technologies to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply 24/7. It aims to achieve a firm supply capacity of nearly 770 megawatts, supporting Oman's carbon-emission reduction goals under Oman Vision 2040.
The project is expected to enhance Oman's standing among leading nations in developing large-scale integrated renewable energy systems, delivering stable, clean, and dispatchable power. By leveraging Oman's renewable energy resources and advanced storage solutions, it addresses the challenges of intermittency in solar and wind energy, facilitating the integration of clean power into the national grid.
Mustafa Mohammed Al Hinai, CEO of O-Green, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, viewing it as a significant milestone in accelerating Oman's continuous renewable energy projects in line with Oman Vision 2040. He emphasized that the project embodies national efforts to utilize Oman's abundant renewable resources, transforming them into practical projects that support a low-carbon economy.
Ahmed Salim Al Abri, CEO of Nama Power and Water Procurement, highlighted the project's importance in Oman's energy sector transformation. He noted that awarding the project to a local developer presents an integrated model combining solar, wind, and battery storage technologies to provide stable and renewable electricity supply round-the-clock.
O-Green, a national renewable energy platform formed through a strategic partnership between OQ Alternative Energy and Naqaa Sustainable Energy, focuses on clean-energy project delivery, enhancing energy security, maximizing in-country value, and building national capabilities across the renewable energy value chain. The company is involved in developing solar and wind projects, localizing renewable energy technologies, and operating data centres powered by clean energy.
Nama Power and Water Procurement is the sole procurer of power and water capacity in Oman, ensuring the economic provision of power and water production to meet growing demand and supporting the development of renewable energy projects for a sustainable power system.
