Tunis: Iman Taysir Al Shamsi, an athlete of the national para athletics team, won the Sultanate of Oman's first medal at the Tunis International Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026, after clinching the silver medal in the javelin throw competition. According to Oman News Agency, Al Shamsi recorded a new personal best of 13.70 meters at the opening of the grand prix competitions, which will run until June 21. The event features athletes from 65 countries worldwide. The competitions marked a successful start for the national team, as Al Shamsi's silver medal win underscores the readiness of Oman Paralympic Committee athletes to compete for top positions in this international forum. This event is recognized as one of the most prominent championships on the para athletics calendar. Dr. Hilal Abdullah Al Sinani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Tunisia, affirmed that the Tunis International Para Athletics Grand Prix represents a global platform for athletic competition. He noted that this forum reflects the growing international interest in sports for persons with disabilities, highlighting the significant support that Oman provides to help athletes achieve milestones on the international stage.
