Omani Delegation Explores Economic Ties with Algeria

Algiers: An official Omani delegation headed by Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), began its visit to Algeria today. The delegation includes Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, along with several CEOs of OIA affiliated companies.

According to Oman News Agency, the two-day visit aims to explore boosting economic and investment cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. The visit also seeks to discuss prospects for cooperation in the economic and investment fields between the two countries. Abdulsalam Al Murshidi emphasized that the visit is meant to support the advanced ties between Oman and Algeria, linking political, diplomatic, and popular communication with common economic interests.

He highlighted the keenness to develop mutual investment projects in vital sectors, including pharmaceutical industries, agriculture, and livestock, along with areas related to food security. He also mentioned the possibility of enhancing cooperation in logistics and financial sectors. Al Murshidi noted that Omani investments in Algeria have commenced through the private sector, with government sector contributions anticipated to complete this path in 2025 through diverse economic projects.

During the meetings with Algerian counterparts, Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi discussed the enhancement of strategic partnerships in food security with the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries. The activation of memoranda of understanding was also addressed to achieve common interests and enhance cooperation in agricultural, fisheries, and rural development sectors.

Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, met with his Algerian counterpart to discuss cooperation in pharmaceutical industries and expertise exchange, governance between public and private sectors, and prioritizing locally manufactured products in government tenders.

This visit aligns with the leaderships of both countries’ dedication to strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, contributing to sustainable development and enhancing mutual investments. It also aims to follow up on governmental and investment cooperation frameworks in desert farming, pharmaceutical industries, and other lucrative investments discussed during the Algerian President’s visit to Oman in October 2024.
