Muscat: Oman Airports, represented by Omani company SATS, today launched a set of electric charging vehicles and stations. The initiative, which kicked off at Muscat International Airport’s air cargo building, aims to cut down carbon emissions and help achieve the 2050 net zero neutrality objectives.
According to Oman News Agency, the ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, who gave a statement in which he stressed the importance of this initiative to achieve net zero targets by 2050.
Al Amri pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman is at the forefront of countries that provide ‘nationally determined’ contributions within global efforts made by the international community to diminish carbon dioxide emissions in different countries.
For his part, Eng. Hamood Al Alawi, Acting CEO of Oman Airports and its affiliated companies, said that the company seeks to boost environmental and economic sustainability and encourage the use of electric cars. This initiative contributes to limiting carbon emissions and improving air quality in the airport zone in the Sultanate of Oman, he added.
