Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, welcomed Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, during Al-Shaibani’s inaugural official visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation across political, economic, and cultural domains.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting underscored the historical ties between the two nations, with both ministers expressing a keen interest in bolstering these relations. Sayyid Badr reiterated Oman’s commitment to supporting Syria’s pursuit of security and stability, emphasizing respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Al-Shaibani expressed gratitude for Oman’s balanced policies and its role in supporting Syrian stability. He highlighted Syria’s eagerness to expand cooperative efforts with Oman, aiming to serve mutual interests and strengthen the bonds between the two peoples.
The meeting included Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Under
secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, and other officials. Sayyid Badr conveyed optimism about Syria’s future in regaining its role on the Arab and international stages, reiterating the importance of Syria within Oman’s foreign relations.
Throughout the discussions, the ministers agreed on updating cooperation frameworks, including the resumption of the Omani-Syrian Joint Committee meetings. They planned to review bilateral cooperation priorities and sign new agreements and memoranda of understanding. Senior officials from both nations will meet to develop an executive work program.
Al-Shaibani also emphasized the long-standing and respectful relations between Syria and Oman. He expressed hopes that these ties would aid in Syria’s reconstruction, particularly in economic and service sectors where Oman has made significant progress.
The Syrian minister revealed plans to reactivate existing agreements and form a joint committee to enhance cooperation opportunities, with technical meetings
scheduled in the coming months.
