Oil Prices Increase Amid US-Venezuela Tensions

New york: Oil prices rose today, recouping part of last week’s 4 percent slide, as concerns over potential disruptions from escalating US-Venezuela tensions. Brent crude futures rose 25 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $61.37 a barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate crude was at $57.67 a barrel, up 23 cents, or 0.4 percent.

According to Oman News Agency, Russian state oil and gas revenue in December is likely to fall by nearly half from a year earlier to 410 billion rubles ($5.12 billion) due to lower crude prices and a stronger ruble. A possible peace deal could eventually increase Russian oil supply, which is currently sanctioned by Western countries.

On the supply side, US energy firms last week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for a second time in three weeks.
