Nikkei Falls for Fourth Session, Hits Lowest Level

Tokyo: Japan's Nikkei share average fell for a fourth consecutive session today and posted its lowest close in a month, as uncertainty over interest rates and currencies kept investors away from risk assets. The Nikkei ended 0.17 percent lower at 64,214.48 points, after moving without clear direction for most of the session, while the broader Topix index rose 0.5 percent to 4,102.04 points.

According to Oman News Agency, shares of chip-testing equipment maker Advantest fell 0.8 percent, while shares of cable and optical fibre producer Fujikura declined 2.73 percent. Meanwhile, shares of memory chipmaker Kioxia rose 1.31 percent, and shares of semiconductor equipment manufacturer Tokyo Electron gained 0.36 percent.

The oil and gas exploration sector fell 3.26 percent, making it the worst-performing sector among the Tokyo Stock Exchange's sector sub-indexes. Shares of Inpex, Japan's leading oil and gas explorer, fell 4 percent.
