Opaz Chairman Meets Qatari Minister to Bolster Economic Ties

Muscat: Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), welcomed Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Free Zones Authority, at his office today. The meeting aimed to strengthen economic and investment relations between Oman and Qatar.

According to Oman News Agency, the discussions focused on developing joint cooperation, especially in special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities. Both parties explored potential investment opportunities and the creation of new partnerships to boost economic integration between the two countries.

The dialogue included topics such as industrial clusters, value chain integration, and a joint investment opportunities program. They also talked about enhancing services for the Qatari and regional markets, strengthening supply chain resilience, and utilizing land connectivity, ports, and logistics services. Furthermore, they examined and introduced investment opportunities within special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities.

The investment environment in zones supervised by the Authority was reviewed, highlighting opportunities in economic, industrial, and logistics sectors. Emphasis was placed on the manufacturing sector linked to significant projects like silica, fisheries, food, cold chain, aluminum, wire, and metallurgical industries in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, and the mining industrial integration cluster in the Wilayat of Shalim. The discussion also covered incentives, facilities, infrastructure, and services that support business growth and investment sustainability.

Both sides underscored the importance of continued coordination, expertise exchange, and enhanced communication between relevant entities and private sector institutions in Oman and Qatar. This cooperation aims to leverage available opportunities and support the growth of joint investments in the future.

The meeting saw the participation of several senior officials from both countries.
