The Ministry of Construction and Housing disclosed details of new residential city projects in five governorates, after presenting investment opportunities.
The head of the New Cities Team, Minister of Housing, Bankin Rikani, said, in a joint press conference with officials and governors today, Monday, that "many citizens are looking for the feasibility of housing complexes, and this has created an accelerating crisis, and therefore the need has become urgent to implement and provide residential cities within modern standards that guarantee decent living and the requirements of urban life, by defining large areas and displaying its services in a civilized manner in accordance with modern architectural designs, sustainable energy and thermal insulation.
He added, “These investment opportunities were announced after joint consultations and studies with the Investment Authority last June, and their bids were opened today,” noting that “most of the offers we received are for the new Al-Jawahiri city, which is located in the former Tariq camp near Abu Ghraib, as well as the New Gardens City (Al-Janaen) in Babylon and the Banks of Karbala in Karbala Governorate (Dhifaf), the city of Ghazlani in Nineveh and the new city of Fallujah in Anbar, and there will be another batch of residential cities in other provinces.
He explained, "The government expects, after taking this path, to find these opportunities to contribute to alleviating the housing crisis."
And there will be a percentage of the serviced residential land in these cities, whose ownership will be transferred from the investor to the state, and another percentage of these cities will include housing units for people with special needs, as well as for the families of martyrs.”
