Al musannah: The creek of Khor Al Qurm in the Wilayat of Al Musannah plays a crucial role in supporting the ecological balance in the Sultanate of Oman by providing a natural habitat for various marine organisms and birds.
According to Oman News Agency, Musallam Mubarak Al Mahri, Director of the Environment Department in South Al Batinah Governorate, emphasized the Authority's active participation in protecting coastal creeks. This is achieved through environmental monitoring programs, assessing water quality, planting mangrove trees, and restoring damaged natural habitats to sustain ecosystems.
Al Mahri revealed that by the end of 2025, 31,575 mangrove trees will have been planted. He described the project as fundamental in protecting vital ecosystems and supporting biodiversity. The mangrove seedlings originate from the Muscat Municipality plantation. Additionally, the Environment Authority collaborates with government departments, private sector establishments, and civil society institutions to enhance public awareness about the importance of coastal creeks and their environmental role.
Efforts to minimize the deterioration of coastal ecosystems are significant in enhancing their ability to support fish stocks, protect beaches from erosion, and promote environmental sustainability in Oman. Al Mahri also noted that Khor Al Qurm creek is poised to become an attractive tourist destination due to its unique natural features.
