Joint Committee Between SQU and Social Development Ministry Discusses Child Violence and Disability Programs

Muscat: The joint committee between Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the Ministry of Social Development held its fourth meeting today. The meeting commenced with a review of the follow-up report on the implementation of recommendations from the third meeting of the joint committee, alongside discussions on various topics presented by both sides.

According to Oman News Agency, the discussions included the preparation of a guide for the psychological handling of children exposed to violence and enhancing cooperation in implementing joint training courses related to programs for people with disabilities. The provision of psychological and educational consultations was also a key focus.

The meeting further delved into preparing a training program for capacity building in the field of social indicator analysis and the development of statistical skills. This was complemented by the inclusion of academic materials in the field of special education, addressing topics such as the integration of people with disabilities and adapted sports.

Within the framework of research cooperation, the committee highlighted the importance of conducting joint studies on family issues and the impact of social media on the value system in Omani society. Additionally, studies related to the volunteer work system were also discussed.

In terms of family empowerment, the committee explored ways to implement training courses for productive families in the fields of handicrafts, e-commerce, digital skills, and small project management. The discussion also included studying the allocation of permanent, temporary, or electronic marketing outlets within the university campus to support and market the products of productive families.

The formation of this joint committee between SQU and the Ministry of Social Development aims to enhance cooperation, exchange expertise and information, and unify efforts in areas of mutual interest.
