The staff of the Investigation Directorate of the Federal Integrity Commission in Basra governorate seized four suspects working in a company of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals in the province due to illegally receiving sums of money from the company due to one of the contractors.
Speaking about the details of the operation that was carried out according to a judicial note, the investigations department of the Commission stated: "A team from the Commission's Investigation Directorate in Basra moved to the Qibla area, where it was able to apprehend (4) suspects working for the General Company of Iron and Steel in the province, red-handed. They sign and take a fingerprint of one of the contractors on an acknowledgment paper that includes that he has received all his financial dues from the company, in exchange for providing it with an electric elevator.”
The department indicated that the details indicate that the defendants did not hand over all the financial dues to the contractor from the General Company for Iron and Steel, as one of the four defendants received the contractor's dues amounting to (29) million dinars, in cooperation with the financial department of the company and without the contractor's knowledge.
It added that the preliminary investigations conducted by the Directorate's team indicate that the defendants took the amount as a bribe for signing the contract with the contractor, while the latter was handed over only two million dinars.
It noted the organization of a fundamental record of the operation in order to present him, along with the four defendants and the seized exhibits, to the competent investigating judge, whose approval was obtained for their arrest.
