Muscat: Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, today welcomed a delegation from Australia’s Curtin University, headed by Prof. Xiaotian Zhang, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global, to discuss potential educational collaborations.
According to Oman News Agency, the minister highlighted the vital role of international partnerships in enhancing Oman’s higher education landscape and offering students access to top-tier academic experiences. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation between Curtin University and Omani institutions, particularly through joint research initiatives in energy and minerals. These efforts aim to tap into Australian expertise in sustainability and green technology. Additionally, both parties discussed organizing joint scientific research events and the possibility of establishing a center of excellence for carbon dioxide utilization.
The dialogue also covered the enhancement of student exchange programs, with proposals for specialized training initiatives and encouraging Curtin University students to engage in Oman’s Scientific and Cultural Exchange Program. Further, they considered the development of short Arabic language courses tailored for non-native speakers.
The meeting concluded on a positive note with the Global College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) signing an academic Memorandum of Understanding with Curtin University in the fields of metallurgical and mining engineering. This agreement is a direct outcome of the 2024 ICEF Middle East Scholarships Forum, which the Ministry organized in collaboration with the international organization ICEF.
