Energy and Minerals Media Forum Stresses Key Role of Media and Community Partnerships

Muscat: Participants in the main dialogue session of the Energy and Minerals Media Forum 2026, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in Dhofar Governorate, emphasized the importance of partnership between sector institutions, media outlets, and the community. This collaboration aims to highlight the economic, social, and environmental impacts of the energy and minerals sectors, enhancing corporate communication, and connecting the sector's achievements and future transformations with community life and needs.

According to Oman News Agency, the session, titled "Energy and Community: Partnership and Impact," explored the strategic framework for the energy and minerals sectors. Discussions revolved around the future of exploration and production, balancing local and international investments, transitioning towards renewable energy, ensuring electricity and water supply security, and the role of minerals in economic diversification. Additionally, it addressed the media's role in building trust and accurately conveying sector information to the community.

Mohsin Hamad Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, highlighted that community communication is a fundamental pillar in policymaking and plan implementation. The Ministry aims to maximize the added value of natural resources by expanding concession areas for oil, gas, and minerals sectors, including offshore areas, thus enhancing Oman's competitiveness and attracting quality investments. He stressed that transparency, sustainable communication, and information availability are crucial for building trust with the community, with media acting as a strategic partner in conveying the sector's messages and achievements.

Dr. Aflah Said Al Hadhrami, Director General of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), explained that modern technologies present the oil and gas sector with promising opportunities for continued exploration and production. He emphasized the importance of balancing production rates with safety and environmental standards, investing in technologies, and developing national competencies. Corporate communication plays a vital role in highlighting the sector's impact on development and in-country value.

Ashraf Hamad Al Maamari, CEO of OQ Group, underscored that the Group's investments maximize the economic value of natural resources. He emphasized the importance of corporate communication and strategic marketing in highlighting the economic and social value of investments, thereby enhancing investor and partner confidence.

Ahmed Amer Al Mahrizi, CEO of Nama Holding Group, noted that the electricity sector is crucial for economic and social development. The transition towards renewable energy strengthens energy security and increases electrical system efficiency, with media representing a strategic partner in conveying sector transformation messages and promoting responsible electricity and water usage.

Eng. Mattar Salim Al Badi, CEO of Minerals Development Oman, affirmed that the minerals sector is a promising avenue for economic diversification. He highlighted the importance of expanding exploration activities, linking mining with manufacturing industries, and enhancing media presence to introduce investment opportunities and their economic and environmental impacts.

The forum featured several specialized working papers on investment in the energy and minerals sectors, the impact of in-country value on national enterprises' development, and the role of corporate social responsibility in sustainable development. It also covered the national plan for net zero and the regulatory framework for carbon markets.

The forum is part of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals' efforts to enhance community communication and showcase the sector's achievements. It coincides with the Energy and Minerals Exhibition in the Ittin area in Wilayat of Salalah, ongoing until August 6, with participation from various entities and companies in the sector.
