Diveability Programme Launched to Empower Persons with Disabilities Through Diving

Muscat: Oman Sail and Asyad Shipping have introduced the Diveability Programme aimed at supporting persons with disabilities through engaging underwater activities.

According to Oman News Agency, the programme offers weekly sessions that take participants from beginner levels to Open Water certification, intending to enhance both physical and social well-being through diving. Initially, 30 candidates will have the opportunity to dive in a swimming pool, offering a safe environment to engage with the sport and decide on further participation. Out of these, 15 participants will advance to an open water experience at the Daymaniyat Islands, while five will complete the Open Water course, which includes 15 additional dives. By the end of the programme, these individuals will earn an internationally-recognised PADI certification, allowing them to dive independently.

The Diveability Programme will start with sessions led by PADI-qualified instructors from SeaOman at the Al Amal Club swimming pool, eventually moving to Oman Sail’s Al Mouj Sailing School for open water activities. Laila Ali Ambusaidi, Acting Senior Sponsorship Sales at Oman Sail, expressed the positive impact water sports can have on persons with disabilities, noting the benefits observed firsthand. She highlighted the programme’s role in supporting the community to enjoy water activities, learn new skills, and potentially build a career in instruction.

Abdulnasser Salim Al Sinani, a Diveability Coach, emphasized the transformative potential of the programme. He noted that diving offers a unique experience free from the limitations faced on land, providing therapeutic benefits and supporting physical exercise. He expressed excitement about delivering another edition of the Diveability Programme, aiming to empower participants to realize their potential.
