North al batinah: The Office of the Governor of North Al Batinah reviewed today the investment opportunities and projects in the governorate during a discussion session held in the presence of Anwar Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
According to Oman News Agency, Mohammed Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, emphasized the importance of these discussions in enhancing partnership and coordination among relevant entities. He further discussed challenges facing the commerce and industry sector and investors, and highlighted the investment potentials and opportunities with which the governorate abounds.
Eng. Mohammed Qasim Al Shizawi, Head of the Investment Development Department and Official Spokesperson for North Al Batinah Governorate, reviewed the comparative advantages enjoyed by the governorate. It benefits from its strategic location, population density, and the diversity of its economic activities. The volume of investments in Sohar Port and Freezone has exceeded USD 30 billion. Furthermore, the governorate has an integrated logistical infrastructure that includes Sohar Airport, commercial ports, the main road network, and the railway project, making it a suitable destination for investors.
Al Shizawi also reviewed a number of upcoming industrial projects in the governorate, including the project to supply ships with liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Sohar Port, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East, with investments amounting to USD 1.6 billion over an area of 4.4 hectares. In addition, he highlighted the United Solar factory project for polysilicon production in the Freezone, with total investments estimated at about USD 1.3 billion and a production capacity exceeding 100,000 tons annually.
During the discussions, a number of development projects currently under implementation in various wilayats of the governorate were also reviewed. These include the waterfront project in Shinas, Al Tayyib walkway in Liwa, Majees waterfront in Sohar, and Mukhaileef, Al Raddah, and Umm Al Ja'arif parks in Saham, alongside the Suwaiq Public Park project and Al Durrah project in the Wilayat of Al Khaburah, thereby enhancing the quality of life and supporting the tourism, developmental, and economic potentials in the governorate.
