London: Liam Rosenior has been confirmed as the new head coach of Premier League club Chelsea, following the departure of Italian coach Enzo Maresca last week. The 41-year-old Englishman has signed a contract lasting until 2032, marking him as the fourth full-time head coach since the club's takeover by American Todd Boehly in 2022.
According to Oman News Agency, Rosenior, born in London, had a playing career that included stints at Fulham, Hull City, and Brighton and Hove Albion. He assumed the role at Strasbourg in July 2024, having previously held coaching positions at Derby County, where he served as assistant to Wayne Rooney, and at Hull City in the English second tier.
Rosenior's immediate challenge will be to improve Chelsea's performance after a disappointing run of just one win in their last eight English Premier League fixtures. He is expected to observe from the stands during Chelsea's upcoming match against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday, with under-21s coach Calum McFarlane leading the team.
Rosenior's debut as head coach will occur during Saturday's FA Cup match away at Charlton Athletic. Chelsea, who were third in the standings in November and considered title contenders, have now dropped to fifth place, trailing leaders Arsenal by 17 points after 20 matches.
