UTAS Opens Laboratory for Advanced Technologies in Sohar

Sohar: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Sohar today celebrated the opening of an Advanced Technologies Laboratory, funded by Sohar Aluminium Company. Dr. Hanifa Ahmed Al Qasmi, Assistant Vice Chancellor of UTAS, highlighted the facility's role in supporting large data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain technologies.

According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Hanifa noted that the laboratory provides an environment conducive to experimentation and innovation for students and researchers. The lab is equipped with tools that support research in hybrid cloud, virtual reality, blockchain technology, and data sciences, featuring a smart interactive whiteboard and integrated computers.

Dr. Hanifa emphasized the collaboration as a model of private sector responsibility in aligning university education with industry needs and digital advancement. The lab aligns with UTAS's strategic focus on fostering innovation, developing future-ready skills, and enhancing partnerships with industry sectors.

The facility aims to enable students, researchers, academics, and industry professionals to leverage advanced technologies. Ahmed Mohammed Al Kharousi, General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Sohar Aluminium, stated that the company's investment reflects its belief in the essential role of technology and education for sustainable development.

The lab's inauguration was attended by Eng. Omar Hamdan Al Ismaili, CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and Dr. Said Hamad Al Rubai'ee, Vice Chancellor of UTAS.
