The Undersecretary Of The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Discusses With The Turkish Ambassador Iraq’s Fair And Equitable Share Of The Waters Of The Tigris And Euphrates Rivers

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning Affairs, Hisham Al-Alawi, discussed with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Baghdad, Ali Reza Güney, the importance of implementing what was agreed upon to ensure Iraq’s fair and equitable share of the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “Al-Alawi met with Ali Reza Güney, where they discussed the bilateral relations that bring the two countries together, and ways to work to enhance them in various fields in a way that guarantees the interests of the two friendly peoples, in addition to discussing some regional and international issues of common concern.”

The statement indicated, “The complaints and requests of Iraqi citizens wishing to visit Turkey and those residing in it were presented, stressing the importance of facilitating the granting of single and multiple entry visas to encourage tourism between the two countries.”

The statement added, “They also discussed the ongoing preparations for carrying out high-level visits by officials of the two countries, and stressing the importance of holding a meeting of the Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation in the presence of the heads of government of the two countries.

For his part, the Turkish ambassador expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields, stressing his country’s keenness to support Iraq to develop infrastructure in the sectors of agriculture, water, transport, industry and tourism, and to stimulate Turkish companies to establish partnerships with Iraqi companies and revitalize the private sector.
