Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed with a number of Arab officials renewed insults to the Holy Qur’an in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Sweden on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Thursday, this came in separate phone calls to Fidan with each of his counterparts, Iraqi Fouad Hussein, Saudi Faisal bin Farhan, and Egyptian Sameh Shukri, in addition to the head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba.
During the calls, Fidan discussed the need for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to move and possible joint measures to be taken as a result of anti-Islam and the growing hate crimes against Islam in Europe, in the context of which a new attack on the Holy Qur’an took place yesterday in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm.
Earlier Thursday, Sweden again granted permission to the resident Iraqi citizen, Salwan Momica, to organize a small demonstration in front of the Baghdad Embassy building in Stockholm, during which he tore up a copy of the Qur’an and the Iraqi flag.
As a result, Iraq demanded the Swedish Ambassador to Baghdad, Jessica Svardstrom, to leave its territory.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also condemned “in the strongest terms the despicable attack” on the Holy Quran, Thursday, in front of the Baghdad Embassy in Stockholm.
On June 28, Momica tore up a copy of the Qur’an and set it on fire at the Stockholm Central Mosque, after the police granted him permission to organize a gathering in compliance with a judicial decision, which was met with a wave of widespread condemnation in the Arab and Islamic worlds./ End
