Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, met on Thursday with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, on the sidelines of the high-level week of meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, ways of developing bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam were discussed. Emphasis was placed on the completion of procedures related to the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, expressing its appreciation for the positions of the Vietnamese side in support of Iraq, especially in the field of combating terrorism, stressing the necessity of resuming meetings of the Iraqi-Vietnamese Joint Committee and developing a road map for bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and development fields in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries.
For his part, the Vietnamese Foreign Minister explained his country's keenness to facilitate the requirements for opening the Iraqi mission in Hanoi, expressing his full support for any positive step that adds momentum to bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and Vietnam.
