“Sumer”, a new tanker joins the Iraqi oil fleet, with a cargo of 31,000 tons

The Director General of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company affirmed the keenness of the Ministry of Oil and the company to build a new fleet for the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company by strengthening the company’s balance of oil tankers through new contracts with specialized international companies.

Ali Qais said in a statement by the Ministry, “The technical team and the committee in charge of the company received today, Tuesday, in China, the new tanker, ‘Sumer’, with a tonnage of 31,000 tons, after completing the final inspections.”

Qais indicated that the tanker sailed from China towards the Iraqi ports, and it is hoped that it will be launched next September.

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company concluded in 2020 a contract with a Norwegian company to build two tankers, each with a cargo of 31,000 thousand tons, aiming to strengthen the company’s fleet in transporting crude oil and oil derivatives alongside the Baghdad, Shatt al-Arab, Tigris and Euphrates tankers.
