Muscat: The Municipal Council of South A’Sharqiyah Governorate convened to evaluate several service and development projects, including the integrated fish market project at the fishing port in the Wilayat of Sur and the “Rafeeq Al Shifa” initiative, designed to enhance patient care by offering appropriate accommodation for companions of patients in hospitals.
According to Oman News Agency, the council also considered a proposal from the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee regarding the standardization of commercial signage. This proposal involves creating a guideline framework with clear criteria for designing commercial signs.
In addition, the council discussed measures to protect sea turtles on Masirah Island. The proposal includes establishing a natural turtle reserve as part of the national reserve plan for 2026-2027 and forming a technical committee to assess the unique environmental needs and vulnerabilities of each turtle species. A strategy to address marine violations was also explored, focusing on improving waste management infrastructure, enhancing public awareness to reduce plastic use and promote recycling, and fostering international collaborations with conservation organizations.
The meeting was presided over by Juma Abdullah Al Araimi, Deputy Chairman of the Council.
