Beijing: During their high-level talks in Beijing today, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed the enduring resilience of the bilateral ties binding their nations, standing firm against the backdrop of a turbulent and rapidly shifting global landscape.

According to Oman News Agency, a pivotal milestone of the summit was the leaders' announcement that they have reached a comprehensive understanding on the core parameters of the "Power of Siberia 2" gas pipeline project. Designed with a target capacity of 50 billion cubic meters annually, this monumental infrastructure initiative will link Russia's vast natural gas reserves in northern Siberia directly to China via Mongolia-a project of paramount strategic importance for Moscow as it seeks a robust alternative gateway for its hydrocarbon exports.

Xinhua News Agency quoted the Chinese President as telling his Russian counterpart, "We have consistently succeeded in deepening our mutual political trust and reinforcing our strategic coordination, maintaining a steadfast resolve that remains unshaken despite ongoing trials and challenges."

For his part, the Russian President remarked that relations between Russia and China have scaled an "unprecedentedly high level," noting a "strong and positive momentum" driving their economic cooperation.

President Putin emphasized that Russia and China are actively collaborating to expand transport and logistics corridors, which has significantly accelerated the movement of goods between the two nations. Speaking in the wake of the bilateral discussions in Beijing, he noted, "Our two countries are working hand in hand to develop transcontinental transport and logistics pathways. As a direct result, both the volume and the velocity of freight and passenger transit between Russia and China continue to surge."

He further highlighted that nearly all bilateral trade settlements are now being executed exclusively in their respective local currencies. He added that Moscow is working alongside Beijing to fortify partnerships in the critical minerals sector, while remaining poised to supply energy to the Chinese market reliably and without interruption.

This high-stakes meeting unfolds amidst a cluster of geopolitical crises directly impacting both nations, chief among them the looming threat of wider warfare in the Middle East, the protracted military conflict in Ukraine, and ongoing disruptions to global trade flows and oil supply chains.

Addressing these regional flashpoints, the Chinese President underscored that any further escalation or resumption of full-scale military operations in the Middle East would be "unacceptable."

Concurrently, a joint Sino-Russian statement was issued, calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and urging the warring parties in the Middle East to engage in negotiations. The joint declaration concluded by affirming that the strategic alignment between China and Russia serves as a foundational pillar in fostering a genuinely multipolar world order.
