Muscat: Russian conceptual artist Erik Bulatov, one of the founders of Sots Art, has died at the age of 92. Bulatov was an influential figure in the world of art, recognized for his unique approach that merged figurative imagery with text.
According to Oman News Agency, Bulatov also pursued a career as an illustrator of children’s books during the Soviet era. Although he relocated to New York in 1989 and later to Paris in 1992, he continued to engage in projects within Russia. Bulatov’s 1975 painting, Glory to the CPSU, which was sold for $2.1 million in 2008, secured his position as one of the most financially successful living Russian artists for many years.
