Muscat:Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has unveiled a series of significant digital initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and accelerating digital transformation across its value chain. These initiatives include the Autonomous Production Programme, Digital Twin project, and advanced agentic artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.
According to Oman News Agency, the announcements were made during PDO's Autonomous and Digital Transformation Day, which was held under the auspices of Abdullah Salim Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance. This event is part of the Company's Journey of Transformation and Ignite Digital initiative, building on the success of its Hackathon 2.0 in June 2026.
The Autonomous Production Programme was a key highlight of the event, integrating AI, advanced process control, real-time data analytics, drones, and robotics. This program is designed to shift operations towards predictive and autonomous capabilities, improving operational reliability, enhancing safety, and optimizing production performance. The initiative aims for earlier detection of issues, faster interventions, and more effective asset optimization under human oversight.
Additionally, PDO introduced its Digital Twin project to integrate physical assets with digital models and live operational data, supporting predictive insights and enabling informed operational decisions. Further expanding its AI capabilities, PDO launched its first agentic AI initiatives, which will broaden the use of AI in decision-making and task execution.
PDO also announced a five-year strategic partnership with SLB and Halliburton to advance digital well construction. This partnership aims to standardize engineering workflows and improve productivity through data-driven decision-making while contributing to the development of national talent through training and knowledge transfer.
Moreover, PDO signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with Onsor Technology to support the adoption of locally developed computing devices, promoting local innovation and technological capabilities. These initiatives align with PDO's ambition to integrate AI and digital technologies to enhance efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the Sultanate's objectives for a competitive, innovation-driven digital economy.
