Sharjah:Two researchers from Oman, Dr. Huda Mubarak Al Dairi and Dr. Thuraya Abdullah Al Jabri, have been awarded first place in the Studies and Research category (Arabic section) at the sixth edition of the Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage. Their research focused on the "Sustainability of the Sidr Tree (Christ's thorn jujube) in the Sultanate of Oman in Light of Scientific and Traditional Knowledge Associated with Cultural Heritage."
According to Oman News Agency, the study emphasizes the significance of the Sidr tree in Oman, combining cultural heritage with scientific insights to highlight its environmental, social, and economic importance within the local society.
The researchers suggest enhancing efforts to preserve the Sidr tree and increasing its cultivation, especially near honey apiaries, due to its beneficial impact on honey production and quality improvement.
The Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage, affiliated with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, a UNESCO Category 2 international center, aims to protect and sustain cultural heritage.
