Muscat:An academic symposium focusing on the history of currency and coins in Omani civilization is set to be organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth on Wednesday, 30 September.

According to Oman News Agency, the Literary Forum will represent the Ministry at the event, which will take place at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat. The symposium aims to explore the significance of currencies and numismatics in Oman's historical context, featuring insights from professors and specialists.

The program will include several working papers. Dr. Ibrahim bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Fadhli will present on Qarmatian coins minted in Oman during 354-362 AH / 965-983 AD. Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Kharusi will discuss the transition from metal coinage to paper currency in Oman between 1893 and 1974. There will also be an overview of archaeological coin hoards found in the region.

The symposium will be overseen by Zakia bint Saif Al Maamari.
