Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will celebrate next Saturday His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession Day, an event marked annually on 11 January. Oman’s Renewed Renaissance has achieved milestones according to the vision laid out by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
According to Oman News Agency,these accomplishments align with the goals set by Oman Vision 2040 and have been realized through various administrative, financial, commercial, and investment operations. This includes the modernization of legislation, laws, governance, integrity, accountability, and auditing systems.
Over the past five years, His Majesty the Sultan has restructured the State’s Administrative Apparatus and transformed the legislative framework. Consequently, Oman has witnessed significant progress, with 470 Royal decrees issued since His Majesty assumed power.
Experts in legal affairs have noted that His Majesty Sultan Haitham’s approach aligns with Oman Vision 2040, designed to adapt to global developments. Jamal Salim Al Nabhani, Spokesman of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, highlighted that the introduction of modern laws since the Accession Day reflects developments in various political, social, and economic aspects of Oman.
Al Nabhani emphasized that the first Royal Decree during the Renewed Renaissance was No. 2/2020, which amended the Law on State’s Flag, Emblem, and National Anthem. This was followed by decrees updating laws in line with the Renaissance, including Royal Decree No. 6/2021 on the Basic Law of the State, initiating a new phase in building a state of law and institutions.
He added that the Royal Decrees were supported by regulations and decisions from the State’s Administrative Apparatus, covering economic activities and public entities. Laws such as the Securities Law, Labour Law, and Bank Deposit Protection Law were updated to align with rapid national developments.
Sariya Khalfan Al Hadi, Member of the State Council, stated that since the Accession Day, Oman has modernized existing legislation and introduced new laws to enhance development and establish legal frameworks aligned with Oman Vision 2040. These laws aim to attract foreign investment and diversify the economy.
She further mentioned that the new Media Law regulates media activities, promotes transparency and democratic values, and guarantees media freedom as per the Basic Law of the State. These legislative updates have significantly contributed to development and fostered partnerships across various sectors.
Dr. Ahmed Ali Al Sa’adi, Head of the Legislative and Legal Committee at the Shura Council, noted that economic legislation has improved the business environment, enhancing growth opportunities and diversifying income sources. Social legislation supports citizens’ rights and social balance through security programs.
Khalifa Marhoun Al Rahbi, Deputy Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association, observed that legislative modernization has been comprehensive, covering economic, social, and legal areas to support Oman’s renaissance. These efforts aim to align with Oman Vision 2040 goals, creating an attractive investment environment and enhancing the quality of life.
