Oman Showcases Athletic Prowess at 6th Asian Beach Games

Sanya: The Sultanate of Oman today participated in the opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games, held in the Chinese city of Sanya from April 22 to 30. Oman is represented by its national teams across several sports, including football, volleyball, handball, athletics, and modern pentathlon.

According to Oman News Agency, the Omani flag was proudly hoisted by Mohammed Al Ghailani from the modern pentathlon team and Alia Al Mughairi from the athletics team during the ceremony. The event features 1,790 athletes from 45 countries, competing in 14 sports and 61 competitions.

The opening ceremony took place at the Ring Theater in the Tianya Haijiao area and showcased an artistic performance titled "A Date with the Sea and the Sky." The ceremony highlighted the cultural diversity of Asia and Sanya's cultural identity, utilizing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence to create a unique visual experience that merges reality with virtual elements. This performance emphasized the relationship between humans and the environment.

In the competition, Oman's beach soccer team aims for a top-three finish as it faces Palestine today, followed by a match against China on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Meanwhile, Oman's volleyball team will commence its participation tomorrow, Thursday, with games scheduled from April 23 to 29, 2026. The national beach handball team is also set to compete against Thailand today.
