Muscat:Total squid landings in Oman amounted to approximately 14,012 tonnes during the year 2025, as reported by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). According to Oman News Agency, artisanal fishing was the dominant method, contributing 12,741 tonnes to the total squid landings. Coastal fishing accounted for 767 tonnes, while commercial fishing contributed 504 tonnes. There were no squid landings reported from aquaculture during this period. At the governorate level, Al Wusta Governorate led the squid landings by artisanal fishermen with 4,459 tonnes, followed by Dhofar Governorate with 4,258 tonnes, and South A'Sharqiyah Governorate with 2,343 tonnes. Al Batinah Governorate, which includes both South and North Governorates, recorded 1,441 tonnes, Muscat Governorate had 155 tonnes, and Musandam Governorate reported 92 tonnes. In terms of foreign trade, the value of Oman's squid exports in 2025 was approximately RO 4,472,009, with a total weight of 4,529,095 kilograms exported to 19 di fferent countries globally. Vietnam was the largest importer of Omani squid, with imports valued at RO 2,120,785, followed by the People's Republic of China at RO 588,930 and Malaysia at RO 394,670. Conversely, Oman's squid imports in 2025 were valued at approximately RO 617,468, weighing 484,512 kilograms. Yemen was the leading exporter to Oman, with a value of RO 209,409, followed by the People's Republic of China at RO 209,230, and the United Arab Emirates at RO 137,292. These statistics underscore the significant contribution of artisanal fishing to Oman's squid landings and the sustained demand for Omani squid in international markets, particularly in Asia.
