Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the celebration of the ‘International Day for Biological Diversity’, a global event observed annually on May 22. This celebration is designed to foster a balanced relationship between humans and the environment, promoting public awareness under the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.”
According to Oman News Agency, the World Biodiversity Day celebration underscores global efforts in wildlife protection. It highlights the importance of safeguarding ecosystems, given their crucial role in addressing environmental, climatic, and economic challenges. The Environment Authority in Oman has laid a foundation for biodiversity preservation through comprehensive field studies that survey the status of wildlife habitats across various governorates in the Sultanate.
The Authority’s initiatives include plans and projects that focus on protecting endangered species within Oman. These efforts are part of a broader national biodiversity strategy, which includes surveying arthropods and evaluating the condition of different endangered species, both plant and animal, in diverse habitats. Protecting biodiversity is not only an obligation but also a strategic investment in human health and economic stability, contributing to a sustainable future by balancing resource exploitation with conservation.
Oman’s commitment to environmental protection aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which integrates environmental sustainability into its core development strategies.
