Oman Launches National Campaign for Early Breast Cancer Detection

Muscat:The Ministry of Health, represented by the National Centre for Women and Children's Health, has launched a national awareness campaign for the early detection of breast cancer under the slogan "Rest Assured." Coinciding with the global breast cancer awareness month, Pink October, the campaign will extend for a year across various governorates in the Sultanate of Oman.

According to Oman News Agency, the campaign aims to build sustainable health awareness, correct misconceptions about breast cancer, and enhance women's knowledge of the signs and changes that require medical evaluation. It also encourages women to take the initiative for early detection and aims to enhance the role of the family and society in supporting women's health.

The initiative will include various awareness and educational programs, initiatives, and events over the year, in partnership with different sectors. It seeks to transform awareness into sustainable health behavior and promote a culture of proactive early detection.

Dr. Faiza Abdul Hussain Al Fadhil, Director of the Women's Health Department at the National Centre for Women and Children's Health, presented the development stages of the breast cancer early detection program in Oman during the campaign's launch ceremony. The program outlined the campaign's objectives, themes, target groups, and implementation mechanisms for the year.

Dr. Badriya Al Qassabi provided an overview of the campaign details, while Muna Al Shukaili discussed the campaign's awareness materials. Dr. Nabila Al Wuhaibi introduced an evaluation form for the campaign's events across the governorates.

The campaign also featured discussions on the medical perspective of breast cancer, including personal experiences, such as Hafidha Al Amiri's dialogue titled: "When Hope Triumphs." This effort aligns with national goals to enhance women's health, promote early detection, and encourage women to use these services as per national standards.

This initiative is part of a broader national effort to develop early detection services for breast cancer, aligning with "Oman Vision 2040" and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). The Council of Ministers directed the launch of a national program for early screening in January 2025, establishing seven early detection units across Oman's governorates.

Breast cancer remains a significant health challenge for women, but early detection can dramatically affect the disease's course and improve treatment outcomes.
