Muscat: The Executive Committee of the Arab Association for Public Prosecutors (AAPP) held a meeting in Muscat today. Hosted by the Public Prosecution Department, the meeting stressed the importance of the AAPP’s role in unifying visions and enhancing joint action among member states. It also discussed the common challenges posed to Arab public prosecution departments and considered effective solutions, notably amid the steady growth in transnational crime.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting looked into the best practices and mechanisms for judicial cooperation, as well as ways to develop the institutional and technical capacities of public prosecution offices and public prosecution departments in member states, through joint training and the exchange of expertise.
The meeting also shortlisted the topics to be endorsed at the 5th annual meeting of the AAPP, scheduled to be held this year (2025) in the Sultanate of Oman. The meeting reviewed a number of recommendations aimed at improving cooperation and integration mechanisms among the Arab authorities concerned, with special emphasis on the advancement of judicial action and the protection of rights and freedoms.
The meeting was attended by Attorney General Nasr Khamis Al Sawa’ee (Deputy Chairman of the AAPP for GCC states), the Attorney General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (the Chairman of the AAPP), the Attorney General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Deputy Chairman of the AAPP for African countries, and the Head of Public Prosecution and Follow-up of Implementation of Criminal Policy in the Kingdom of Morocco (Secretary-General of the AAPP).
It is worth noting that the Public Prosecution Department in Oman joined the AAPP in November 2022, and its head was elected as Deputy Chairman of the AAPP for GCC states in November 2023.
