Bangkok: The Sultanate of Oman, through its Scientific Research and Innovation Authority, is actively participating in the 14th Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) in Bangkok. The event, which extends until 22 May, gathers representatives from across the globe to discuss research advancements and collaborations.
According to Oman News Agency, the Omani delegation is led by Dr. Saif Abdullah Al Haddabi, Chairman of the Scientific Research and Innovation Authority. Al Haddabi delivered a keynote speech on Open Science applications, emphasizing Oman's initiatives to empower young researchers and establish a research ecosystem that integrates local knowledge into scientific research.
The delegation also engaged in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional meeting. This session presented a study on bilateral and multilateral collaborations, identifying key research partnership opportunities within the region.
In addition to the main proceedings, the Omani delegation attended various side sessions with leaders of scientific research authorities from the Global South. These discussions centered on enhancing funding, building capacity, and supporting curiosity-driven research. Preparations for the Council's 2027 annual meeting, set to occur in Cape Town, South Africa, were also reviewed during these sessions.
