Oman Engages in ESCWA Social Development Committee Session in Algeria

Algiers: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 16th session of the Social Development Committee of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held in Algeria. Oman’s delegation was led by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.

According to Oman News Agency, the ESCWA committee focused on social protection systems in the Arab region as a means to promote equality. The committee emphasized the need for innovative and comprehensive policies to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of social programs.

The meeting reviewed ESCWA’s ongoing efforts in social development, including recommendations from the previous session. It also covered the activities of the ‘Intersessional Expert Working Group on Persons with Disabilities’ and the ‘Expert Group on Social Protection Reform’.

The session includes the “Fourth Arab Forum for Equality,” which aims to highlight the capacity of social protection systems to tackle significant forms of inequality.

The Ministry of Social Development’s participation underscores Oman’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation, exchanging expertise, and supporting efforts toward sustainable development and improving citizens’ quality of life.
