Muscat:North A'Sharqiyah: The Environment Authority organized a forum titled 'Environmental Legislation: Wadis, heritage and future' in the Governorate of North A'Sharqiyah, focusing on legislative measures for the protection of wadis.

According to Oman News Agency, the event was held under the auspices of Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhuhli, the Governor of North A'Sharqiyah, and featured four key presentations.

The first presentation, "Wadis in the Sultanate of Oman: From legislative protection to sustainable environmental management," discussed integrated spatial planning and smart monitoring. The second presentation, 'Hydrological systems and sediment movement in wadi channels,' emphasized the significance of integrated management to reduce flood risks.

The third presentation focused on the regulations and procedures necessary for wadi protection. The final presentation analyzed a study on flash flood risks in Wadi Hadad, located in the village of Al Naba in the Wilayat of Al Qabil, highlighting the dangers posed by urban expansion in the wadi's buffer zone.

The forum concluded with a panel discussion aimed at developing legislative and regulatory frameworks to preserve wadis effectively.
